assistance of the US Marines. Those assigned to staging areas will need to be in place by 5AM to help with setup and man their posts.
LEG 1
Upon departing Floyd Bennett Field, the escort will head north on Flatbush Ave to the Belt Parkway West. It will travel to the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, through Staten Island on the Staten Island Expressway West, to Route 440 South then to the Outerbridge Crossing. Once in New Jersey the route will be I-287 West to I-78 West. The ONLY organized fuel stop will be in BLOOMSBURY, New Jersey. (I-78-Exit 7) All motorcycles will stop for fuel at this point. It is approx 75 miles from Floyd Bennett Field and 125 miles to Appalachian Harley-Davidson in Mechanicsburg, PA.
PLEASE BRING SMALL BILLS WITH YOU ON THE RUN!!! ALSO, CASH ONLY , PLEASE, AS IT WILL STREAMLINE THE FUELING PROCESS FOR THE FUEL TEAMS. ALL FUEL AMOUNTS WILL BE ROUNDED UP TO THE NEXT DOLLAR! AFTER FUELING IS COMPLETED THE ADDITIONAL MONIES COLLECTED, WILL BE DONATED TO THE FOUNDATION!! FUEL TEAMS WILL BE PREPOSITIONED TO MINIMIZE DELAYS.
LEG 2
After fueling in Bloomsbury, we will re-stage before heading into Pennsylvania. We cannot guarantee you will end up in the same place within the pack during re-staging. The escort continues on I-78 West to I-81 South. Those motorcycles with limited range should refuel on I-81 Exit 77 (e-z off and on) approx 80 miles from Mechanicsburg. Rich Snyder will make contact with the gas stations owner, Mike Ekshker, about a week before the run. We urge you not to attempt to push your motorcycles' performance/fuel limits.
Appalachian H-D is located at exit 57 off I-81 (route 114) Once at Appalachain you will be able to refuel at several gas stations within 2 miles of the dealership and re-enter the stage, grab a bite to eat and relax a bit. We will attempt to keep the stop at Appalachian, under 2 hours. There will be mechanics on duty that day, as well as some local HOG members, to register those who wish to join the IRON and STEEL RUN at Appalachian!
LEG 3
We depart the dealership and head West on Route 11 to the Pennsylvania Turnpike/ I-76 West to Somerset, PA. AGAIN THOSE WITH LIMITED RANGE WILL HAVE TO REFUEL. It is 120 miles to Somerset and there is a gas station approx 80 miles from Mechanicsburg on the Turnpike. There will be a support vehicle at the Somerset Toll to assist with those who needed the fuel stop on the Turnpike. Be advised this must still be approved by the PA Turnpike Authority. At Somerset, Highland H-D will be opened late for anyone needed assistance with their scooter!!

We will spend the evening relaxing in Somerset, PA, and offloading Fire Truck 343. The IRON and STEEL RUN will continue on Sunday morning. We will depart Somerset at 8:30AM. The staging area will be HIGHLAND HARLEY-DAVIDSON. Please arrive at Highland H-D no later than 7:45 AM. The Ceremony in Shanksville, PA will be at 1000AM, Sunday, August 24th, at the Shanksville Firehouse.
